La isla de la Juventud (Cuba) is a film that plunges us into an intimate, eventful journey to an enigmatic place, a promised paradise. Thanks to the collective memory of the area’s older residents, it becomes possible to know the dreams and disappointments of its own inhabitants. The film is a tribute to those who still hope for a better future. The director: ‘I think old age is a very interesting subject through which awareness can be raised, because we do not realise that tomorrow we too will be old and, at the same time, alone and forgotten, unless we respect older people.’
