Edition 2014

Five Days to Dance

A pair of dancers turns up one morning in a secondary school classroom. It is Monday, and they announce to a group of teenagers that they have five days to step onto a stage and dance. A week to change things: a short deadline, but a big challenge, moving people when the world holds us still.

Dance forces these young people to break out of their roles at the very moment when those social roles are being forged. The leader is no longer the most admired; the shy one steps forward. Dancing makes them touch each other. They communicate, they become equals. Some will not let go until the very last moment.

Wilfried Van Poppel and Amaya Lubeigt are the choreographers. He is Dutch, she is Basque. Dance is the common language. The place does not matter. Five days, a class of teenagers, a microcosm in which a small big bang takes place.
