El último aplauso

El último aplauso tells the moving story of a forgotten group of veteran tango singers in Buenos Aires who for many years performed together in one of the city’s most famous tango bars, ‘Bar El Chino’. After the mysterious death of its owner in 2001, the bar passed into the hands of his widow and her new partner and within a few weeks this remarkable place lay in ruins. The film follows the lives of these forgotten tango singers from 1999 to the present and shows their struggle to make a living after the bar closed, during the country’s worst economic crisis. Their desperate dream of singing again comes true when they meet the young tango musicians of the ‘Orquesta Típica Imperial’, with whom they give one last concert and enjoy the warmth of an audience, perhaps for the last time in their lives.
