The Final Stretch
The land disappears year after year at the mouth of the river Ebre in Catalonia, swallowed up by the sea. The inhabitants of the last stretch of the river are the reflection of a society devouring itself while facing an economic, social and environmental crisis. A group of sturdy farmers build with their own hands an enclosure in which to host the most plentiful meals of the season. Autumn is always reaping time, but also storm time. Marcela and Cinta prepare themselves to suffer the impact of the sea, which is swallowing up their land. During winter full-moon nights, hunters from the Delta go out with their weapons, keen to claim their place in the food chain. A new summer begins and the recession is still hitting hard in the area. It’s been over two years since Manolo lost his job and his physical activity has been reduced to the very minimum.
