Since the dawn of time, a man has walked ahead of his flock following the seasons of the year. The transhumant shepherd is part of our collective imagination. Joan ‘Pipa’ is perhaps the last representative of this age-old tradition. We join him on his final transhumance journey through the Catalan Pyrenees and day by day we enter his intimate world, the past and present of a man who loves his trade and passes on the joy of the freedom of living alongside untouched nature. But the progressive abandonment of the countryside, aggressive industrialisation, unchecked growth, the building boom, the multiplication of new infrastructure and now climate change are bringing the dream to an end and leading us towards an uncertain future. Is the disappearance of transhumance progress, or the death of our civilisation?
