Edition 2015

Democrats

Accusations of fraud, intimidation, vote-rigging. In 2008 the presidential elections in Zimbabwe trigger a huge crisis between the current president Robert Mugabe and the head of the opposition, Morgan Tsvangirai. The tension in the country is unbearable and Mugabe is forced to form a coalition government with his rival in order to create a new constitution together. We will immerse ourselves in the country’s power circles to experience a fascinating process that will define the future of a whole nation. Two members of each party are asked to draw up the constitution and arrange meetings throughout the country to find out the concerns of their people. During the journey the initial suspicion will eventually lead to a relationship based on mutual respect that clashes with the parties’ own interests. Will they be able to build a constitutional democracy? A seemingly impossible challenge that will involve the whole country.
