Although Botero’s work is easily recognizable by most people, his life and personality are practically unknown. This portrait brings us closer to the artist from a human perspective and reveals the essence of his art. Decades of invisibility and incomprehension and the tragic death of his four-year-old son are episodes that have marked his life and that the artist has masterfully captured in his extensive work. Through his own memories and reflections and a wide repertoire of testimonies such as family members, historians, curators and academics, Fernando Botero’s most intimate secrets and deepest convictions are brought to light. Don Millar

Don Millar is a Canadian film and television director who works internationally from his base in Vancouver. His previous directing credits include the climate change documentary OIL SLICK, the biopic FULL FORCE about rugby star Harry Jones, and the fiction film OFF THE CLOCK. Millar has also directed numerous corporate advertising projects. He is a visual artist, photographer and video artist, and a former board member of the Contemporary Art Gallery in Vancouver. He studied English literature, painting and cinematography.
