Of Time and the City is both a love song and a eulogy to the director’s birthplace of Liverpool. From the original voice of the great British auteur, Terence Davies, comes a visual poem which draws on the first 28 years of the director’s file in Liverpool until he left in 1973. A very personal portrait of the city, beyond its Beatles and its football clubs, the home of the writer’s birth, where youth and inspiration weave his own story into the recent history of the City. Of Time and the City is a response to memory, reflection and the experience of losing a sense of place as the skyline changes and time takes it toll. All this is exquisitely captured with fascinating found footage, always observed with Davies’ poignant and sensitive eye, and a layered sound track of popular and classical music, voices, radio clips and a powerful, poignat voicover by the auteur.
