A 25-year-old woman suspected of adultery was executed in Spingful, a mountain village in northern Afghanistan. This news, which went around the world on 23 April 2005, is the starting point of this film. The documentary presents the story of two lovers, reconstructing the tragic events through the eyes of witnesses. The director tries to find out what happened on the day of Amina’s death, a death surrounded by riddles because of the many different versions of how she died. The official investigation argues that the main cause of death was a heart attack. Yet the film’s key witnesses describe entirely different versions of events. The documentary shows the difficulties newcomers face in understanding the hierarchy of Muslim values. A world in which nothing is worth as much as a man’s life.
