Ernest Sitges is the last transhumant shepherd in the Berguedà. Before Midsummer he sets off on a three-day walk to move his flock from Vallcebre to La Molina, in the Cerdanya, where it will spend the summer. Along the way he meets people who help him on the days of ‘going up and down the mountain’. His relationship with these characters and their conversations give us clues to understanding what transhumant culture means, a culture on the verge of disappearing in Catalonia after a thousand years. Living in a caravan and accompanied by Carlus, a twenty-two-year-old shepherd, Ernest will spend what may well be his last summer as a shepherd.
