Abdul, from Yemen, Farid, from Iran, and Brian, from Cameroon, live in Brandenburg, Germany, as asylum seekers. Willing as they are to build a better life, they find themselves stuck in this small town. Without a residence permit, life outside the asylum centre is all but impossible. Over the course of a year we follow the three protagonists and their struggle for education, work, love and the longed-for right of residence. Their lives collide constantly with German idiosyncrasies: at local festivals, in government offices, in Berlin nightclubs. A close, revealing and humorous view of a strange new homeland.
